Every Year Is for Community—But 2025 Is About Strengthening It
It’s going to be another tough 4 years ahead for a lot of people in our neighborhoods and community. The way to get through it is to make sure we are all looking out for one another at all times.
Since August ‘23, The World’s Borough Bookshop has been about building and fostering community. But this year, more than ever, we’re going to lean into the power of being in community together.
In 2023, we took the first step, proving that Jackson Heights was hungry for a true third space—a place beyond work and home to gather, connect, and grow.
In 2024, you helped solidify this dream. From author talks and writing events to block parties and quiet afternoons spent just hanging out, our shop truly became a third space for so many of you. I was also introduced to so many creatives filled with talent and stories—stories that could (and will) become books, zines, and works of art. This year, I’m committed to helping you make that happen through workshops designed to bring all of our ideas to life.
In 2025, we’re doubling down: more community events writing and art workshops, more events to inspire creativity, and maybe—just maybe—a small version of the grand Queens Book Festival I’ve been dreaming of to test the waters for something even bigger.
We’re going to make 2025 the year of storytelling, creativity, and community.
Here are two recommendations for fostering community that I highly recommend:
Bookish news- We’re Expanding Our Used Book Selection!
WBB is growing with more shelves, and we’re excited to expand our used book collection! I’ve heard you all last year you want more used books - well you got it. I’ll dedicate some shelves in the shop for used books but with some rules! If you have used books you'd like to donate, we’d love for you to bring them in. Here’s what we’re looking for:
✨ For Inside The Shop: Books written by BIPOC authors that are in good condition. Please note, we cannot accept school textbooks or state testing books, as our goal is to stock titles that reflect the diverse and inspiring voices we celebrate in our store. Fiction and Non-Fiction, Comics and even kids books if they survived the toddler years! Not only will the donation help the store but also get those books more affordably into the homes of others!
✨ For Our Community Book Cart: We’re still accepting book donations of all kinds! These donations help us provide free books to the community, and every contribution makes a difference. Our favorite blue cart outside rarely stays full for long as everyone wants to read and own books (duh!)
Thank you for supporting our mission to uplift stories that deserve to be heard. Let’s keep building a space where everyone can find themselves in a book! ❤️📚
